Bucharest is the capital of Romania since 1862, it is the country's biggest city and also the most important political, economical, commercial, cultural-scientific, educational center of the country.
The city is situated in the south south-east of Romania, in Vlasiei Plain, at 60 km from Danube river, 226 km from the Black Sea and 120 km from the Carpathian Mountains.

Bucharest contains 6 administrative districts , and since 1981 also the Ilfov Agriculturist District.

- Most flights, domestic and international, land at the Henri Coanda International Airport, located in Otopeni, 18 km of the city downtown. The airport, built in 1968, underwent a massive modernization.
- Aurel Vlaicu International Airport, located inside the city, in Baneasa, about 4-6 km to the city center and is used primarily by business, charter and low-cost airlines.

Once considered the "Paris of the East", Bucharest is now mostly known for The Palace of Parliament, second in size to the Pentagon, that has become one of the city's prime tourist attractions.

About Bucharest Bucharest offers superb museums, Orthodox churches and galleries, you don't need to car rent in order to see most of them. Its political legacy provides a fascinating selection of sights where visitors can rediscover the emotions of its history.
The most important touristic objectives of Bucharest are: Parliament's Palace, The Romanian Athenaeum, The Triumph Arch, The Village Museum, Herastrau Park, The National Bank's Palace, The Equestrian statue of Mihai Viteazu, The National Theater, The University, The Botanical Garden, The National Museum of Romania's Art, The National Museum of Romania's History, The Church of Casin Monastery.
In Bucharest there is plenty of nightlife and an increasing amount of cultural events. Also, traditional Romanian cooking can be enjoyed along international cuisine in it’s many restaurants.

Whatever the reason of your visit to Bucharest, you will never get bored in this city, just be sure to bring along proper clothes, since the climate is temperate - continental, with hot summers and snowy winters.
